Welcome to the Forest

Vale de Moses is a remote Retreat nestled in the forested mountain valleys of Central Portugal.

We are organic beings whose quality of life is dependent on a myriad of entangled ecosystems that mutually nourish the environments where we live. We are curious about all the ways that living in nature support our health and well-being. Feeling safe here, invites us to become more sensitive to the nature of sensations happening in our bodies. Sensations that aren’t just an expression of being human, they are expressions of the earth herself encapsulated in the dna of every one of our cells. We are able to feel part of the wholeness. That we belong.

In our own spacious silence, we meet the infinitely capacious silence beyond our own.

Practicing in a space floating above the landscape. Gathering around a fire pit to share stories with others. Sweating in the lodge and cooling off in cascading river pools. Resting our spirits in hammocks serenaded by the symphony of waterfalls, birdsong and breeze whistling the leaves. Wandering moss-lined river paths to old flour mills where those who have been before us can still be felt, seen, heard, remembered. Returning to the medicine of home-cooked food to feed the microbiome in our bellies responsible for our existence. And sleeping deeply beneath the stars in rustic stone cottages made of mountain, or belle tents in the shade of strawberry fruit trees.

Our vital energy is dependent on the wellness of all beings.

May all beings be happy, healthy and free.

REST

Since we arrived in 2008, we threw ourselves whole heartedly into restoring the four Xisto stone houses at Vale de Moses, with great care and respect to the old local Portuguese traditions of building with natural materials: clay, lime, stone and wood. We hope you'll enjoy staying in these old dwelling places as much as we have over the years. We have a choice of private double bedrooms in the main farmhouse, single beds in shared open plan cottages, or glamping belle tents in the shade of strawberry fruit trees.

NOURISHING FOOD

You won't be hungry as we feel it's important to nourish your body while staying with us. We're feeders! We lovingly prepare three delicious and nutritious vegetarian/vegan meals every day. Fresh vegetables, salads and fruit are available from our own or our neighbours' gardens during the season and from our favourite local greengrocers in Oleiros.

HEALING TREATMENTS

Touch is the most vital of ways to heal ourselves, so with each visit we offer you a simple invitation to rest, to take the time for yourself that is often so hard to find. To give yourself over to the nurturing hands of an intuitive, compassionate and knowledgeable therapist. To reconnect, restore and rebalance, through the practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
